Solving Word Problems

There are three steps in solving word problems:

1) Assigning Variables - you need to know units to do this.

2) Choosing an Equation - easy if you can do #1.

3) Doing the Math - simple algebra is all you need.

These exercises will help you learn to solve word problems and show you just how simple it really is!

All of this is also covered in the Word Problem Primer worksheet.

1) ASSIGNING VARIABLES

Physics Units - (Matching) Helps you memorize units - essential for doing word problems.

Variables 1 (Matching) - Learn what the variable stand for.

Variables 2 (Matching)

2) CHOOSING AN EQUATION

Choose the Correct Equation

3) DOING THE MATH - Start by reading this page.

The "Math Code" (Matching)

Understanding Formulas (Multiple Choice) - Learn to read the science formulas and tell what math function to use.

Moving Variables Prelesson (Multiple Choice) - If you are having trouble with algebra, this exercise will help you learn to move the variables.

Moving Variables - (Multiple Choice) - Learn the algebra to move variables in an equation.

Physics Equations - (Matching) Memorize many of our Physics equations.
